EXPLORE BALIK PULAU HILLS
Prices from: RM1530 per person
Hikes: i) The Orchard and Jungle Trails and ii) Waterfall Hike
Rating: Easy to moderately difficult
Spend three nights with us exploring the hills of Balik Pulau with our experience guide, Peter Van Der Lans. Enjoy the lush scenery and charming vistas of the valleys and listen to fascinating stories about Peter’s experience and his encounters during his walks around the hills.
Peter will take you on two interesting trails during your stay with us. The first is the Orchard and Jungle Trail, a moderately easy hike of about 3 hours, starting from and ending back at Malihom. Part of the trail goes through farmland, orchards and plantations. Here you will see the highly prized King of fruits - the durian - grown in its surrounding environment as well as other complimentary fruit trees such as mangosteen, rambutans and nutmegs. Other parts of the trail will take you into secondary forests and if you’re lucky, you may see some wild animals along the way. You return back to Malihom in time for a hearty lunch. Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool. Watch the sunset and enjoy a sundowner before dinner.
The next morning brings you on a different hike to a well-hidden section of the Titi Kerawang falls. Unknown to many, this section of the Titi Kerawang falls took Peter two years to discover. To get there, you need to catch a bus with Peter (or drive if you have a car) to the base of the hike. Depending on the weather and fitness level, Peter will guide you through meandering trails through farmlands and forestry before you reach the stunning falls. Spend a bit of time soaking up the energy of the cascading waters while you have your packed lunch. You should return to Malihom sometime in the afternoon. You can pre-book a massage or take a swim in the pool before dinner.

ABOUT PETER VAN DER LANS
An adventurer at heart, Peter left his homeland in Netherlands on a pushbike for Asia over 13 years ago – stopping over in Pakistan, China and Thailand – and finally ended up in Malaysia. He now lives in Balik Pulau and runs a guided tour of the hills in Penang.
Peter started exploring the hills about 4 years ago and has extensively covered many trails on the island, making him one of the most seasoned hiking guides to-date. He is familiar with popular and well-travelled trails as well as off the beaten tracks around Air Itam, Penang Hill, Batu Ferringhi, Teluk Bahang (National Park), Balik Pulau, Relau, Bayan Lepas and the southern part of Penang including Pulau Betong and Gertak Sanggul.
Peter has no problem with any hike from 2 to 10 hours and has extended his hikes from well-known paths to searching his way through the forests by using forgotten trails or no trails at all. When he is not guiding, he enjoys cycling. Peter has a website about his cycling adventures www.bicycle-adventures.com or you can follow www.facebook.com/bicycleadventures which includes many photos of his hikes in Penang.
